Inaccuracies[]

  • The Protoceratops in Dinosaur Planet use bear and elephant sound effects. Protoceratops were small ceratopsians, and since dinosaurs are more closely related to birds, they should sound like certain bird species, such as ducks, geese, and swans.
  • The Dinosaur Planet Protoceratops lack feathery quills on their backs.

Role[]

  • The Protoceratops appear in the Dinosaur Planet episode “White Tip’s Journey”. They are introduced when the titular female Velociraptor White Tip does a pratfall into a shallow valley of a nest guarded by a male and female Protoceratops during her lizard hunt. The old male Protoceratops chases White Tip into the territory of another male Protoceratops, who sees him as an intruder. Knowing that his harem is under threat, the other male Protoceratops rams the old bull Protoceratops several times while White Tip watches from a safe distance, hoping to have a meal. Dazed, bleeding and disoriented, the wounded old bull Protoceratops staggers in the wrong direction and White Tip follows him, waiting for him to collapse to the ground. Once the old bull Protoceratops collapses, White Tip finishes him off and begins her meal straightaway. The Protoceratops appear again when White Tip and her new pack consisting of two female Velociraptors and a male named Blue Brow steal eggs from the ceratopsians, with the female Velociraptors creating a diversion by snapping and biting at them, and Blue Brow and White Tip going in and raiding the nests. After they flee with several eggs in their jaws, they divide the loot in which Blue Brow keeps his eggs while White Tip has to give up hers. White Tip initially refuses to give up the Protoceratops eggs, but she backs off and lets the two female Velociraptors eat them. Later, after a storm brews, the Protoceratops drink some of the flooded water. The Protoceratops appear for the last time when White Tip, her mate Blue Brow and the two female Velociraptors prepare to hunt them. White Tip jumps onto a Protoceratops, but gets bucked off by the ceratopsian. Blue Brow takes on a second Protoceratops while his mate looks on. One of the two female Velociraptors helps Blue Brow by knocking down the Protoceratops, but the Protoceratops clamps down onto Blue Brow’s wrist, causing him to screech out in pain. Blue Brow manages to pull himself free, and he and the Protoceratops begin to fight, but they ultimately get buried in an avalanche of sand along with the two female Velociraptors. White Tip and the other Protoceratops are shocked to see what just happened. Seeing that she is the sole survivor of her species, White Tip leaves the two remaining Protoceratops and heads back to her chicks. Later, the Protoceratops which got buried in the sand along with the male Velociraptor Blue Brow, becomes the famous Protoceratops specimen fighting the Velociraptor specimen.
