Monsters We Met is a three-part documentary that was produced by the BBC, showcasing how human activity has been affecting the environment and causing mass extinctions. The series aired in 2003 on BBC Four and was narrated by actor Ian Holm. A book adaptation was written by Ted Oakes which put greater detail about human evolution and the natural history of the Earth during the Cenozoic. A condensed version of the series later aired for American audiences on Animal Planet as a special narrated by character actor William Hootkins, this version followed the book rather than the original special and was given the name Land of Lost Monsters.
