The Haast's eagle (Hieraeetus moorei; formerly Harpagornis) is a large eagle that lived on the South Island of New Zealand. Weighing up to 15 kilograms, a large female Haast's eagle surpasses today's largest eagle, the harpy eagle in size, a female of the latter weighing up to 9 kilograms. Due to its big size, it was likely capable of hunting one of the largest birds ever, the moa. It was wiped out by humans.
